Thanks to incredible trans women like Munroe Bergdorf and Laverne Cox , more and more people are feeling empowered to change their biological form to match their gender identity. But what is it like being and dating as a trans man? Urm, can a man be a lesbian? In short, no! Sexuality is who you do. K describes himself as a heterosexual male.
Why don't Transwomen date transmen, why only target Cis men/women
Considering the discrimination trans people face on a daily basis, it comes as no surprise that trans people are overlooked when it comes to dating. Two Canadian researchers recently asked almost cisgender folks if they would date a trans person in a new study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. This is the first study to ever attempt to quantify the extent of trans discrimination when it comes to romantic and sexual relationships. The options included cisgender man, cisgender woman, trans man, trans woman, or genderqueer, and participants could select as many genders as they wanted. Virtually all heterosexuals excluded trans folks from their dating pool:
The first time I thought of kissing a man, I panicked, got on my knees atop my bed, and asked God not to send me to hell. I did the same, sometimes, when I thought of kissing another woman. In all these visions, I was a woman who could imagine herself with someone of any gender, but at the time no one knew that but me, and I had been taught for so many years in church and school alike in my home of Dominica that if I revealed this blasphemous belief, used such dubious Delphic language to self-describe, I would be committing an unpardonable sin. My body felt off to me; I wanted everyone to see me, immediately, as female.
